How to obtain a plenary indulgence for the Holy Souls

From November 1st - 8th: visit a cemetery and pray for the poor souls.

On November 2nd: visit a cemetery or a church or an oratory. Recite one Our Father and one Creed.

A partial indulgence can be obtained any time by visiting a cemetery and praying for the poor souls. The following prayer is especially recommended:

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.

Requiescant in pace. Amen.

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen

Six general rules for obtaining a plenary indulgence:

1. State of grace.

2. Complete detachment from sin, even venial sin.

3. Confession *

4. Communion *

5. Prayers for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff.

6. Indulgenced act

* For Confession and Communion, the Church allows 20 days before or after the indulgenced act; however, traditionally we recommend 8 days before or after for Confession and 1 day before or 8 days after for Communion.

2023 OLS Bags Tournament: Please join the men of Our Lady of Sorrows, ages 12 and up, for a Bags (Cornhole) Tournament sponsored by the Holy Name Society, on Saturday, November 11th at 9:30 AM on the field. This is an all-day men's event including food, drinks, cigars, a cornhole tournament, and much more. We will honor all veterans during the event, and all veterans and first responders play for free. Pre-registration materials and more event info can be found in the vestibule on the HNS Bulletin Board. For any questions, please email [email protected].

The Christmas Giving Tree will be on display during the Christmas Boutique this year on November 26th and December 3rd. The ornaments on this tree will list specific items needed by one of our parishioners, particularly at Christmas. If you or someone you know could benefit from the Christmas Giving Tree, contact Fr. Pons or Monique at the church office (602-268-7673 x1). Requests will remain confidential.
