The race is off

Our Lady of Sorrows Academy runs the Jog-a-thon on November 27, 2019

Weeks of fundraising and dedicated training culminated in the day of the Jog-a-Thon, November 27, 2019.  The children were all charged with excitement, as they prepared after Mass for the big event.  Gathering together such a large boisterous group for the pre-run picture was a challenge, but was managed, as can be seen in the photograph below.

A prayer lead by Father McFarland, for the survival of the participants, raised all hearts upwards, and then Br. Alphonsus announced the beginning of the 2019 Our Lady of Sorrows Academy Jog-a-Thon.  An explosion of energy propelled the students forward, the less experienced in a sprint, the more experienced in a steady jog, and the slow in a somber walk.

Music was provided to lighten the spirits of all as the lap count mounted, and when some flagged in weariness, Br. Alphonsus encouraged them to greater efforts.  Those who had prepared were able to keep up their regular pace, while others found that their pace proved to be too much to maintain.  Slow and steady wins the race!

As the final minutes were approaching, all exerted themselves to squeeze out a few more laps before the time expired.  Covered in perspiration, the runners tallied their rubber bands to see who ran the most laps, and then moved toward the barbeque with ready appetites.  Toby Tuckness led the boys with 63 laps, and Hannah Kohoutek the girls with 54.  The religious followed behind with Frs. McFarland, Pons, Pedersen, Kallal, and Br. Dismas running 53, 42, 61, 54, and 51 laps respectively.

We are so thankful to our families for working so hard for our school, and to the support of our benefactors.  News will be forthcoming about the final total of monies raised, which well exceeded our goal.  Deo gratias!
