Third Sunday of Advent
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Linda Kinney, who died on November 25th. The funeral will be Tuesday, December 13th here at Our Lady of Sorrows at 10:00 AM, followed by the burial at Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale.
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Dean James, who died on December 2nd. We will have a Requiem Mass for him on Thursday, December 15th at 8:30 AM.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Feast: There will be Rosary and Benediction in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe today at 5:30 PM. Please join us in Boyle Hall after Benediction for Mexican pan dulce (sweet bread) and hot chocolate.
Ladies Auxiliary Meeting: All women of the parish are invited to a meeting on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 PM in Boyle Hall. Fr. Pons will give a conference, we will discuss upcoming parish events, then will end with a social hour. Please bring a snack, dessert, or drink to share.
Ember Days: Traditional days of fast and partial abstinence are Wednesday, Friday (complete abstinence), and Saturday, December 14th, 16th and 17th. This observance was originally instituted to encourage the faithful to pray and do penance for new priests. Please offer your prayers and sacrifices on these days that God may inspire more men to offer themselves for this holy ministry and for the perseverance of those already ordained.
Christmas Giving Tree Instructions. Please turn in all purchased giving tree items to the church office (WRAPPED, with the ornament attached) by December 16, 2022. Please include a gift receipt, if appropriate. Thank you for your generosity.
Holy Hour for Mothers: Please join us on Friday, December 16th from 10:00 - 11:00 AM in the church as we spend an hour with Our Lord praying for parish vocations and the intentions of our families. All mothers are welcome!
Second Collection schedule: December 18th to benefit the Academy. Thank you for your generosity.
Christmas Decorating: Decorating the church for Christmas will take place Sunday, December 18th from 3:00 - 5:00 PM, followed by Vespers in the Church. Dinner will be provided at 5:30 PM in Boyle Hall. Please join us for this family-friendly event, and bring a dessert or drink to share. Many hands make light (and enjoyable!) work.
Academy Christmas performance and awards night is Thursday, December 22nd at 7:00 PM, in the Performing Arts Center. All parishioners are invited to attend.
Bookstore: The Academy High School girls sewing class has made a variety of chapel veils, on sale now in the bookstore. These make lovely Christmas gifts!
Raffle for Altar Servers: The Holy Name Society is selling raffle tickets to purchase new cassocks and surplices for our altar boys. Tickets are $20; only 250 tickets will be sold. Grand prize is $1,000, second place prize is $250. The drawing will be held on the Feast of the Holy Family, Sunday, January 8, 2023.
Christmas Novena of Masses: Christmas cards with the gift of a novena of Masses will be in the vestibule this week. Donations will benefit the building fund and may be turned into the church office, bookstore, or placed in the collection basket. The novena of Masses will begin with the Christmas Midnight Mass.
