How to obtain a plenary indulgence for the Holy Souls

From November 1st - 8th: visit a cemetery and pray for the poor souls.

On November 2nd: visit a cemetery or a church or an oratory. Recite one Our Father and one Creed.

A partial indulgence can be obtained any time by visiting a cemetery and praying for the poor souls. The following prayer is especially recommended:

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.

Requiescant in pace. Amen.

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen

Six general rules for obtaining a plenary indulgence:

1. State of grace.

2. Complete detachment from sin, even venial sin.

3. Confession *

4. Communion *

5. Prayers for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff.

6. Indulgenced act

* For Confession and Communion, the Church allows 20 days before or after the indulgenced act; however, traditionally we recommend 8 days before or after for Confession and 1 day before or 8 days after for Communion.

All Souls Day, Monday, November 2nd, public Masses will be celebrated one after another on the main altar, at 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM and 6:30 PM. The 8:30 AM Mass will be a sung Mass, and there will be no distribution of communion at the 8:00 AM Mass.
