Feast of Christ the King

In honor of Christ the King today we will have only one Mass at 9:00am with the procession starting at 10:30am, Benediction at outdoor Altar and returning to Our Lady of Sorrows. Confessions from 7:00-8:50am (2 priests). No confessions during Mass. The Holy Name Society will have a table with complimentary light refreshments and donuts available for all directly after the Feast of Christ the King Mass.

The Third Banns of Marriage are announced for Mr. Adam Michael Maez of Tempe, AZ, formerly of Sts. Peter and Paul, Albuquerque, NM and Miss Joanna Bayolo of Tempe, AZ, formerly of St. Philomena’s, Miami, FL, who plan to be married on November 23, 2019. Any persons knowing of any impediment to this union are obliged in conscience to notify the pastor as soon as possible.

All Souls envelopes are in the vestibule to submit names of the faithful departed to be remembered at daily Mass through November. Please include an offering; envelopes can be placed in the collection basket or turned in to the office by October 31, 2019.

Feast of All Saints, Holy Day of Obligation, Friday, November 1. Masses at 5:45am, 7:30am High Mass, and 6:30pm.

All Day Adoration on Friday, November 1, begins after 7:30am Mass and ends with Rosary and Benediction at 5:45pm. Sign up sheet is in the vestibule “Can you not watch one hour with Me?” Please be sure all time slots have two people signed up to give correct veneration to Our Lord. Please note time for Rosary and Benediction, now 5:45pm.

How to obtain a plenary indulgence for the Holy Souls

From November 1-8: visit a cemetery and pray for the poor souls.

On November 2: visit a church or an oratory. Recite one Our Father and one Creed.

A partial indulgence can be obtained any time by visiting a cemetery and praying for the poor souls. The following prayer is especially recommended: Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.

Requiescant in pace. Amen.

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen

Six general rules for obtaining a plenary indulgence:

1. State of grace.

2. Complete detachment from sin, even venial sin.

3. Confession (8 days before or after the indulgenced act).

4. Communion (8 days before or after the indulgenced act).

5. Prayers for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff.

6. Indulgenced act: a special good work with special conditions of place and time.

All Souls Day, Saturday, November 2, public Masses will be celebrated one after another on the main altar, at 7, 7:30 and 8am. The eight o'clock Mass will be a sung Mass, and there will be no distribution of communion at the 7:30.

Nunc Dimittis group meeting on Saturday, November 2. Prayers for book intentions said in church after Mass and Seven Sorrows devotion. Meeting in Boyle Hall after prayers.

All Saint’s Day party will be held on Saturday, November 2 starting at 3pm. 

Young Adults Group meeting Sunday, November 3 at 12:30pm in front of Boyle Hall, departing shortly after to hike South Mountain.

The Ladies Auxiliary will hold a Christmas boutique and display a Christmas Giving tree on December 1 and 8. The proceeds benefit families/parishioners in need. We are asking for donations of Christmas crafts, gifts and baked goods to sell. All donations can be turned in at the Church office. If you know someone who could benefit from the Christmas Giving tree contact Rochelle at the church office 602-268-7673. Requests will remain confidential.
